Meet the Founder: Vicky Prasad Mahato & the Story Behind Mera Paisaa

Every great product has a story behind it โ€” a moment of frustration that became a mission. Mera Paisaa is no different. Here is the story of how Vicky Prasad Mahato built a premium finance app for every Indian.

Who is Vicky Prasad Mahato?

Vicky Prasad Mahato is an indie developer, designer, and builder from India. Known in the tech community as ABVicky, he has spent years crafting mobile applications and digital products that blend premium aesthetics with genuine utility.

His work can be explored at his portfolio: abvicky.in โ€” a showcase of products, experiments, and ideas that reflect his philosophy: great software should be beautiful, functional, and honest.

The Problem That Sparked Mera Paisaa

Like millions of young Indians, Vicky found himself in a familiar situation: salary credited, and somehow, two weeks later, money was already tight. He tried every budgeting app on the Play Store. Most were:

  • Cluttered with ads that made tracking feel cheap
  • Requiring him to link his bank account to unknown servers
  • Built for Western markets, ignoring uniquely Indian contexts like Udhar (informal lending) and high subscription counts
  • Just... not enjoyable to use

"I wanted an app that felt like a luxury product but was accessible to every Indian. Something that made managing money feel less like a chore and more like empowerment." โ€” Vicky Prasad Mahato

The Vision: Cinematic Dark Luxury Finance

From the first sketch to the final build, Mera Paisaa was designed around one idea: your relationship with money should feel premium.

Most finance apps treat money as a source of anxiety. Mera Paisaa was designed to feel like the opposite โ€” a calm, sophisticated command center for your financial life. The dark UI, smooth animations, and intentional design language all serve this vision.

The philosophy: Privacy first, beauty second, utility always.

Building Offline-First in a Cloud-Obsessed World

One of the most deliberate technical decisions Vicky made was to build Mera Paisaa as an offline-first application. In a world where every app wants to live in the cloud, this was a bold stance.

The reasoning is deeply personal and deeply Indian:

  1. Privacy: Most Indians are unaware that their financial behaviour is being harvested by apps and sold to advertisers. Mera Paisaa refuses to participate in this.

  2. Reliability: India's internet connectivity is uneven. A finance app should work in a metro, a hill station, and a village with equal reliability.

  3. Speed: A locally stored database is instantaneous. No spinners. No "loading your data." Just your finances, immediately available.

The Features That Define the App

Every feature in Mera Paisaa was inspired by a real problem Vicky observed in Indian financial life:

FeatureInspiration
Udhar TrackerIndians informally lend/borrow constantly โ€” this needed visibility
Subscription ManagerThe average Indian now has 6+ subscriptions they barely track
Smart GoalsSaving feels meaningless without a visual target to chase
Category InsightsPeople are shocked when they see how much they spend on food
Multi-Account SupportMost Indians manage 2-3 accounts + credit cards + cash

What's Next

Vicky is continuing to build Mera Paisaa in public โ€” shipping updates, engaging with users, and refining the experience based on real feedback. Upcoming features include:

  • Google Play Store Launch: Official Play Store listing coming very soon
  • Investment Portfolio Tracker: Track SIPs, stocks, and FDs in one place
  • Bill Reminders: Never miss a due date again
  • Shared Budgets: Manage household finances with your partner
